Head Outdoors, designed around mobility access

Head Outdoors Mobility is designed for wheelchair users and people with mobility needs. It draws on the core psychology and nature-based learning of Head Outdoors, shaped into a focused five-week programme.

The programme blends indoor and outdoor learning, with each session shaped around the group, the environment and the conditions on the day.

A creative, multisensory experience

Psychology, natural science and creative practice are woven together throughout. Natural materials, arts-based learning, sound, imagery and audiovisual resources offer different ways to explore and connect with nature.

Nature-based art and craft support curiosity, concentration and creative flow, while practical activities help participants put ideas into action.

The five-week journey

The programme retains the three core Head Outdoors sessions, followed by two creative sessions focused on self-compassion, metaphor, confidence and moving forward.

Nature and the Nervous System

Explore how the nervous system responds to stress and how experiences of nature can support regulation, attention and connection.

Return to My Trees (Dod yn ôl at fy nghoed)

Use trees, memory and personal connection to explore identity, belonging and the places that matter to us.

Bird Chatter and the Brain

Explore attention, thoughts and mental noise through bird behaviour, sound and the natural science of communication.

Self-Compassion and Creative Flow

Use nature-based art and craft to practise self-compassion, focus on the present and experience the benefits of creative flow.

Nature, Metaphor and Moving Forward

Work with metaphors from the natural world and nature-based craft to recognise strengths, build confidence and consider what comes next.

Accessible woodland learning

The Woodland Centre at Penllergare Valley Woods provides an accessible base for indoor and outdoor sessions. The flexible format enables the group to work with nature in ways that are practical, engaging and responsive to individual mobility needs.
