Heritage craft meets wellbeing

Woodcraft and Wellbeing

Practical skills, confidence and connection through making.

There’s something satisfying about making something with your hands. Working with wood gives us a chance to slow down, focus on a practical task and see our skills grow. Along the way, we can build confidence, connect with others and discover the pleasure of creating something ourselves.

Our sessions bring together practical learning, wellbeing and heritage craft. From whittling to chair-making, we explore traditional skills that connect us with natural materials and knowledge passed between generations.

Making space for wellbeing

Woodcraft can be a mindful activity in itself. Paying attention to the grain, the feel of a tool and the shape taking form can bring our attention into the present.

Learning together creates space for conversation, connection and encouragement, with something practical to focus on.

Skills, heritage and confidence

Our team includes an experienced green woodworker who supports people to develop skills at their own pace. Green woodworking uses freshly cut wood and traditional hand tools.

You don’t need previous experience. We make room for beginners, curiosity and the inevitable wonky first attempts!

Different ways to take part

We run a range of sessions, shaped around the people, interests and partnerships involved.

Five-week Therapeutic Woodcraft

Our five-week programme integrates psychology-based learning with practical woodcraft. People develop tools for everyday wellbeing while learning skills and building confidence through making.

One-day workshops and whittling

A chance to try a heritage craft, learn practical skills and enjoy making together. Our one-day and whittling sessions offer an introduction to working with wood, with support from our experienced team.

Longer projects and chair-making

Longer projects give people time to develop their skills, work through a creative process and see a finished piece take shape. These can include chair-making and other green woodworking projects.

Shaped with people and partners

We shape sessions with communities and partners, responding to people’s interests, needs and experience.

Whether someone wants to learn a new skill, find a creative focus or feel more confident joining in, there’s room to start where they are.
